The Kinetics of Chemical Reactions: Single-molecule versus “bulk” View
نویسنده
چکیده
Chemistry is a discipline that studies how molecules convert into one another. A chemical reaction can involve several different molecules. For example, a molecule of sodium chloride can fall apart (i.e., dissociate) into the sodium and chlorine atoms. The simplest possible chemical reaction involves conversion of some molecule A into a different form B. To describe this reaction, we write the following equation:

Distinguishing Direct and Indirect Photoelectrocatalytic Oxidation Mechanisms Using Quantitative Single-Molecule Reaction Imaging and Photocurrent Measurements
Light-driven semiconductor-catalyzed oxidation reactions are of fundamental importance in photocatalysis and photoelectrocatalysis for removing organic contaminants in wastewater, solar energy conversion, and fine chemical synthesis. The underlying reaction mechanism is often unclear because it is difficult to measure directly and specifically the semiconductorcatalyzed reaction rates. For exam...

Calcium oxide is one of the appropriate catalysts for biodiesel production. In this study, cheap and compatible with environment catalyst has been used. Mussel shell of Persian Gulf coast is one of the sources of calcium carbonate that is converted to calcium oxide at calcination temperature up to 950°C. Transesterification reaction was carried out at optimum condition of our previous study...

Much of the dynamics information is lost in bulk measurements because of the population averaging. Single-molecule methods measure one molecule at a time; they provide knowledge not obtainable by other means. In this article, we review the application of the two most widely used single-molecule methods--fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) and force versus extension measurements--to se...
متن کاملNumerical Study of Blast Initiation of Detonation Using a Two Step Chemical Kinetics Model
The effect of chemical reactions on the blast initiation of detonation in gaseous media has been investigated in this paper. Analytical method is based on the numerical solution of onedimensional reactive Euler equations. So far, analyses on the blast initiation of detonation have modeled the combustion process as a one-step chemical reaction, which follows the Arrhenius rate law. Previous stud...

Movies of Molecular Motions and Chemical Reactions of Single Molecules Viewing a movie of an enzyme molecule made by molecular dynamics simulation, we see incredible details of molecular motions, be they changes of the conformation or actions during a chemical reaction. Molecular dynamics simulations have advanced our understanding of the dynamics of macromolecules in ways that would not be ded...
